Edinburg Chamber of Commerce was created in 1932 to lead the effort in advancing
commerce and the quality of life in Edinburg and the region. In April 2001 the
Edinburg Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors approved a motion allowing a divisional
name change from the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce - Tourism Division to what's
now called the Edinburg Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Hidalgo
County is the location of twenty-six municipalities and has a population of nearly
543,000. Geographically, the county ranges, from farm lands and pasturelands to
busy city landscapes. The county is served by HWY 281 (future I-69), HWY 83 and
numerous state highways. It is also the home of University of Texas-Pan American.
The
scenic beauty and the abundant natural resources, with near by water-ways, South
Padre Island and shopping in Mexico attract visitors to our area. Edinburg is
the first major city visitors see when entering the Rio Grande Valley as they
come in from HWY 281. The natural setting and the quality of life gives Edinburg
an advantage of untapped tourism potential. Visitor
